A man in Schuylkill County is taking a gamble that he can overcome a bad economy and make good on his dream.
Last year Vito Basile was working for someone in a restaurant in Mahanoy City. At the time he said his dream was to open a place of his own.
His dream is now coming true. Vito's restaurant, Basile's, bears his last name. It's on Route 309 just north of Tamaqua.
Inside he is making last minute preparations for his grand opening next Monday.
"I used to be by myself but now I have a family. I have a little child so I have to think a little bit more about my future and my child's future," Basile said.
Everything inside is state-of-the-art a hefty investment for Vito and his wife, Paula, especially in light of a shakey economy.
"We're taking a big chance but we're confident because our prices are reasonable so a family can go out and eat and not spend $100," Paula Basile said.
The restaurant also means spin off business for vendors, who know the family is betting that the economey gets better.
"One of the first things hit is restaurants as people begin to worry about where to spend their money and everything so everyone that opens is important and it's important for the business owners to have a product that will sell for them," said Tom Powers of Guers Dairy.
The owners said they've hired 15 people and those 15 in this bad economy are just glad to have jobs.
