Christians that more than 2,000 years ago Good Friday was the day Jesus Christ was led to his crucifixion.

That was played out in one Schuylkill County community Friday. The atmosphere was somber as a procession made it's way through the streets.

Some streets were closed in Gordon for a group of actors. Leading the way was Jesus carrying a cross, portrayed by Ed Labie.

"Everybody comments because I do it barefoot and the thorns are real but it's nothing compared to what He went through. This is a small thing. It can't compare. It makes us think of what happened and what He did for us," Labie said.

Labie, as Jesus, was escorted by two Roman guards. Behind them were the Blessed Mother and even Mary Magdalene. These symbols have been part of Good Friday for 31 years in Gordon.

"It's been a tradition that my husband started 31 years ago and we're just continuing it," said Rose Yost, who portrayed Mary Magdalene.

"This gives me such inner peace on this most scared of days. As I was coming down the street I heard one little kid say, 'Who is that?' Well you know what, if you don't know when you're four or five years old there is not a lot of hope for us anymore," said Nina Kramer who participated in the procession.

People came out on their porches and watched.

"It's my religion, you know. It's something I really understand and I hope they keep it going," said Deb Shoffler.

"To me it brings the community back together because we're really not tight anymore. We have a lot of people in the community but this brings people out and we're more of a community every year with this," said Kristy Shoffler.

People in Gordon said as long as there is Easter there will be a procession there
