You might recycle aluminum or paper, but did you know there are parts of your car you can recycle?
You can put some of those car pieces to good use and maybe even earn a buck or two along the way.
What do you think people do with their old car batteries?
Well, we found out in Susquehanna County.
"I usually, i try to recycle them. If I buy a new one I'll take it to the place where I buy that battery," one man said.
Another uses the junkyard and a third man, well he said, "it's just like everything else. They want everything recycled anymore."
A lot of auto parts stores accept old car batteries. Interstate batteries in Greenfield Township near Clifford has been recycling them for years.
They say sometimes people forget about recycling batteries.
"For recycling, we do automotive batteries anything from forklift cells all the way to any kind of lawn mower batteries," Carol Oliver of Interstate Batteries said.
People at Interstate Batteries said they're trying to find more outlets to recycle alkaline batteries, but they're specialty is automotive batteries.
"The people that come by they can drop them off too and we usually give a couple bucks for them," Oliver said.
In the garage there are some old batteries on a pallet. They'll be sent to an EPA approved processing center and turned into new car batteries.
"Well, definitely they're not left in backyards to rot, I mean they're definitely, the acid isn't that great for the environment," Oliver said.
Recycling re-chargeable batteries, cell phones and automotive batteries is all a part of the larger effort to help preserve the environment.
