An oversized load that has been stuck in part of Montour County for more than two weeks is finally on the move again.
Danville was at a standstill as the oversized load made its first attempt to cross the Danville-Riverside bridge since late October.
Back then, the heavy load broke down during its journey. It stayed put on Front Street until new parts arrived, and the rig was cleared to move.
"It's been interesting, watching the whole process. Really not sure what they're doing at the moment," said Wayne Krebs.
The rig broke down again. Officials said a bolt broke. As time went by, onlookers worried they could be waiting a lot longer for the oversized load to move.
Many, like Cynthia Hoeger, were stuck like the truck late for work. "Not quite sure why they decided to do it in the middle of the morning, but oh well," said Hoeger.
Then, after more than an hour spent trying to move, the rig the oversized load was on its way across the bridge to Riverside and in the clear.
Cheers went up on both sides of the bridge now that the truck was gone at last.
Danville's police chief said until further notice, oversized loads are off-limits in the borough.
The chief said he would like to find a way to regulate that kind of heavy-duty traffic in the future.
