A pricey mistake on eBay has a school district in the Poconos saying "oops."
While trying to sell a used classroom trailer on eBay, an online auction site, the East Stroudsburg School District said a screw up in placing the ad, allowed someone to bid and buy the trailer for only a buck.
Just one dollar.
"Was I aware that there was no reserve? Absolutely not. Was I aware it could possibly sell for a dollar? Absolutely not," said Dr. Rachel Heath, the superintendent of the East Stroudsburg School District.
Dr. Heath said the demolition of the Bunnell Building for the new high school was forcing the district to sell seven of its used trailers.
However, the district was having trouble finding buyers.
The district said they bought the trailers for about $46,000, then with transportation and set up, the total cost was around $60,000. That was three years ago so they were only hoping to get around $5,000 to $10,000 on eBay.
East Stroudsburg tax payers said that's a difference of thousands of dollars and they are not happy.
"How could something like that happen? It's crazy," said Rose Swire of East Stroudsburg.
"My internet bill us going up, so I am thinking if I can get a trailer like that for a dollar, it may just pay some of my bills," added Brian Soto, also from East Stroudsburg.
"I am certainly aware of the outrage and I feel very bad about it," said Dr. Heath.
Dr. Heath said the school district tried to back out of the eBay sale, but couldn't. She said the pricey mistake is now being investigated.
As for the remaining trailers that need to be sold, Dr. Heath said they won't be on eBay any time soon.
"No I don't think we will go that route again," she added.
