A woman who killed a man with her car while driving under the influence will spend almost two years in jail.

A judge sentenced Daryl Reinhardt, 55, of Stroudsburg to 11-and-a-half to 23 months in county jail. In court, Reinhardt told the judge she was sorry but the victim's family said that might not be enough.

Reinhardt pleaded guilty in August to homicide by vehicle and DUI charges for hitting a man with her car while driving under the influence last October.

It happened on Route 611 in Stroud Township.

Balloons were tied to a sign at the intersection of Route 611 and Shaffers School House Road where police said Reinhardt hit Darrin Brown, 36, of Bartonsville with her Jeep while he was walking on the road. Reinhardt had her 14-year-old child in the car with her.

Her lawyer said she had about two to three drinks that night.

Court documents said her blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit.

Nearly 40 people packed the courtroom Wednesday in support of Reinhardt during the sentencing.

"Daryl Reinhardt is a soccer mom, a great neighbor, a wonderful person. She supported me through breast cancer and her own breast cancer fight, my mother passing with and her mother passing with cancer," said Reinhardt's friend Teresa Hicks.

Reinhardt wrote the victim's estranged wife, Wendy Brown, a letter. She had not seen her husband in about ten years but added she is saddened by the fact that their son will never know his father. She's not sure if she will ever be able to forgive Reinhardt.

"I don't know. I have to know she felt bad about it. That it is not just she felt bad about it and that she got caught. I want to know she felt bad about what happened," Brown added.

Daryl Reinhardt will begin her sentence immediately. She also surrendered her driver's license and must perform 100 hours of community service.
