Four people were shot and four others arrested after a party Halloween night in Monroe County.
Police said it started when a party at a home in the Emerald Lakes development near Long Pond got out of hand. Unwanted guests showed up, a fight broke out and the gunshots started.
Several cars were still parked in the driveway of a home in the Emerald Lakes development in Tunkhannock Township, hours after police said a party at the home ended with four people shot.
Police said Dheklan John, 22, of Tobyhanna was the shooter. He is charged with several counts of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and more.
John and three others were arrested after police said a party got out of control. Investigators said uninvited guests showed up and a fight started just before 1 a.m.
Four people, including a juvenile, were shot. All were taken to the hospital. One man had to be flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Police were initially called to the home on the 2000 block of Cedar Drive for reports of a fight involving about 100 people and a baseball bat. It was while police were on their way that they learned multiple shots had been fired.
"I'm not surprised people are having parties but I'm surprised to hear people were getting shot up at parties up here," said neighbor Leroy West-Spicer. He and his wife live just around the corner. His wife saw all the police activity.
"I am very shocked because that's not something that happens around here. I've never, I've been here almost 10 years, and I never heard of anyone being shot," added Scarlett West-Spicer.
The West-Spicers said they are just glad those allegedly involved in the shooting were caught.
"I know this is isolated, it's not something we're used to having happen and hopefully something like this won't happen again," said Scarlett West-Spicer.
There is no word on the conditions of the people who were injured.
Investigators have not said what may have started the fight. Dheklan John and three others are locked up in the Monroe County jail.
