Police are still investigating a shooting that happened at a family barbeque over the weekend in the Poconos.
Officers said the killing may have happened during a fight over a recent murder trial.
Police said this is a case where emotions ran high. Years after one man was killed, investigators said a fight over the murder trial may have led to this weekend's homicide.
"It's kind of unusual to have another homicide linked like that," said Stroud Area Regional Police Captain Bill Parrish.
He added officers need to have more conversations with the accused shooter, 23-year-old Jerel Johnson of Stroud Township before they can find out exactly what led up to Saturday night's deadly shooting.
Police said ambulances were called to a home in the Blue Mountain Lake Estates community where the accused shooter was having a barbeque with his brother and some friends.
Police found the victim, 51-year-old Mingo Lee, in the living room of the house with eight gunshot wounds. Lee died at the hospital.
Johnson said he and Lee had gotten into a fight, possibly about the murder of Barry Rose, who was shot and killed in his Pike County home in 2007.
Police said Jerel Johnson is the son of Barry Rose's fiance. Last week, Marquis Keeys, 20, was convicted of killing Rose.
"Especially this long after the original homicide, I mean that was a year and a half ago. Usually emotions, I think they may have gotten stirred up with the trial," Captain Parrish added.
Police also said Mingo Lee was a good friend of Barry Rose.
Police hope to talk to Johnson more this week to find out exactly what led the fight and then the shooting.
Johnson is locked up in Monroe County without bail.
He is scheduled to appear in district court next week.
