A shooting in Williamsport has police on the lookout for a suspect.
It all happened late Monday night in what residents call a peaceful neighborhood.
The victim knew the gunman, according to police. That leads investigators to say it was no random shooting. Police are releasing few details in hopes of getting their suspect.
They do say the woman, who has not been identified, suffered a "substantial neck injury" and was eventually flown to a trauma unit at nearby hospital.
Yellow police tape surrounded the apartment building on Glenwood Avenue where the shooting happened.
"No, this is usually a really good neighborhood. I've never had any problem here before like this," said neighbor Carl Fraley.
Police said the woman was found in the hallway outside a friend's first-floor apartment.
Investigators said the shooting took place just before 11 p.m. Monday.
Neighbors described a dramatic scene as family members of the victim screamed for help until police arrived.
"We came out and saw these people running up and down. The one lady was so hysterical. They were falling down on the, they were so upset they were falling out on the sidewalk screaming," recounted Sandra Livingstone. "I think everyone was concerned. You know when they heard it was a shooting and the people involved were, of course, upset and hysterical. It's really a sad thing to have happen."
The victim's condition is not being released and neither is the reason for the shooting.
