Suspect Caught After Police Chase in Luzerne County
Just days after another chase ended with the death of a state trooper and a suspect, officers found themselves in pursuit of a driver in the Wilkes-Barre area.

Police said the chase began after David Yanchauski of Harding stole a truck in West Pittston. It ended on North Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre after officers from several municipalities chased Yanchauski down and boxed him in with their cars.

Neighbors watched as the man then tried to get away on foot.

"He jumped through that door, went into that backyard. He went all the way around to the house. He's locked up in the police van," said neighbor Juan Ramirez.

Mary Jo Hogan said she was surprised to see a police van in her driveway. She was even more shocked when she saw a person being arrested in her yard. "Right in front of our house, under our tree is where they took him down," said Hogan.

Investigators said a Wilkes-Barre police officer was taken to the hospital after he was accidentally bitten by a police dog during the foot chase.

No one else was hurt but neighbors said it could have been worse.

Daniel Flood Elementary School is just down the street.

Some students, including Aaliyah Jordan were at the playground nearby.

"I was over there at the park and then we heard the screeching from the park and then we saw the car coming down really fast," said Jordan.

The injured officer is expected to recover.
