A tentative contract agreement could bring an end to a long-running contract dispute in the Northwest Area School District.
A spokesman for the teachers' union says the tentative deal was reached Tuesday night during a bargaining session in Luzerne County. Specifics of the agreement were expected to be announced either later this week or early next week. Teachers and the school board must approve the contract.
Teachers in the Northwest Area School District in the Shickshinny area have been working without a contract for about four years. They went on strike for 17 days earlier this school year. They planned to strike again, but a judge said no because of a state law which mandates that the school year end no later than June 30.
