Just one day after he was suspended from his job as head of the Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority, Allen Bellas did not attend a meeting of the Wyoming Valley West School Board where he sits as board president.

It was a fairly typical meeting for the Wyoming Valley West School Board, except for one thing: the meeting at the middle school in Kingston was run by the board vice president, instead of by Bellas.

"Mr. Bellas emailed Mr. Mazur this afternoon and said he was not going to be able to attend tonight meeting and asked Mr. Mazur, who is the vice president, to chair tonight's meeting," said board member Barry Williams.

The board meeting came one day after Allen Bellas was suspended without pay from his job as director of the Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority. The authority board made the decision during an emergency meeting Tuesday.

The suspension comes a few weeks after Bellas told the redevelopment authority he planned to resign as director because he was in trouble from the corruption investigation.

Wyoming Valley West School Superintendent Charles Suppon said at this time, they are not asking for Bellas to step down from his position. "At this point, Mr. Bellas is still part of the Wyoming Valley West School Board and that's all we have right now," said Suppon.

In July the FBI subpoenaed records from the school district, but so far, no one in the district, including Bellas, has been accused of any wrongdoing.

"As far as we know, there have been no charges against anybody. And Valley West has received nothing to indicate anything, so we're in the dark also," said Williams.
