In his first year as a state representative in Lackawanna County, Kevin Murphy is breaking the mold. He is making himself available to constituents in an unusual way.
Murphy's office on North Main Avenue in Scranton is unlike any other state representative's office in the commonwealth.
"We live in a fast-paced society, people are in a hurry. If they drop off a document or pick up a rebate form, we're able to provide that service at the drive-thru window and move things along," explained Murphy.
When the first-term rep opened is office he wanted to reach out to the people in west Scranton and Lackawanna County.
"That is awesome, especially in my situation because you know, taking the van, getting the lift down, blah blah blah, wheeling in, opening the doors, but just to go through the drive through. It's great!" said Annette Smerdon.
She the next time she stops it will be at the drive-thru window.
"Take advantage of it, especially when the weather's inclement. You have to worry about getting out of your car, falling on the ice, getting through the snow," Smerdon added.
While Mrphy does take his fair share of ribbing from other state representatives about the idea of a drive-thru window, he said the goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to reach him.
"Mothers with children in their car seats, we have handicapped constituents, we have senior citizens, it's heavily utilized," said Murphy.
He added you can catch him at the drive-thru window on most Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
