Police in Lackawanna County are investigating an armed robbery.

Blakely police said the Jewelry Traders store on Main Street was held up at gunpoint around 5:15 p.m. Monday.

Blakely police said the men wore ski masks and hooded sweatshirts, walked into the jewelry store and demanded money from the woman who was working alone. At one point, one of the men pulled out a pistol.

"The gun was put right in her face and that's when she hit the panic button, which she was standing in front of, they grabbed some items and fled the store," said Blakely Police Chief Guy Salerno

Surveillance video also captured the suspects leaving. John Sewitsky and his son, Jonathan, showed Newswatch 16 what their surveillance camera caught shortly before an armed robbery at the business next door. The younger Sewitsky remembers seeing the men when he was working outside.

"They went running by and I went to see where they ran to but I couldn't. Then the cops showed up," said Jonathan Sewitsky of JJ's Service Station.

Troopers from the state police along with officers from Dickson City assisted Blakely police officers setting up a perimeter behind the store. They even brought in a tracking dog to help search the woods.

Police said the robbers got away in a car.

"They followed the tracks which led to where a vehicle was parked and that we got from tracks in the snow," said Chief Salerno.

While authorities search for the robbers, the Sewitskys are glad no one was hurt. "I'm thankful she's okay, just thankful that nothing happened to her. I know she is elderly," said John Sewitsky.

The clerk inside the jewelry store did not want to talk about the robbery.

The store reopened shortly after the crime.
