A man already locked up for assaulting his girlfriend now charged with beating her little girl.
Jorge Reyes had plenty to say about the assault charges against him. Investigators said he is the man who beat his girlfriend, Cassidy Rega, and even attacked her little girl.
Reyes, 25, was taken before a district judge in Archbald Friday, charged with aggravated assault of a 19-month-old girl. The child suffered a fractured skull, broken ribs and other internal injuries.
"I understand, I understand all that. I didn't do it, Reyes said, despite the fact the girl was in his care. 'She's been in my care since Monday. She's been in my care four months already." He added he doesn't know how the child was hurt.
Lackawanna County detectives said the abuse happened at Reyes' apartment in Jermyn. They said he beat 19-month-old Faith Larson over a period of days, from Monday last week until Thursday, when the child was rushed to the emergency room.
"Enough trauma and enough force to severely lacerate a very important part of the child's stomach to the point where if she wouldn't have been taken to the hospital at the time she did she would have died," said Deputy District Attorney Michelle Olshefski.
She added the little girl has undergone multiple surgeries to repair the traumatic injuries. Olshefski called Jorge Reyes an evil man who, just a week before assaulting the little girl, also attacked the toddler's mother.
"I didn't threaten her. I didn't do any of that," said Reyes. He denied slamming the woman's head on and would not accept responsibility for the child's injuries.
"Faith is in critical but stable condition. It's going to be a long road to recovery but I think she'll do fine in the end," said her godfather Thomas Padden. "Faith is a beautiful child and thank God, hopefully it's going to work out in the end"
He added he never trusted Reyes and when he learned his godchild had suffered such horrific injuries, he suspected Reyes right away. "We feel very confident and good that Mr. Reyes has been arrested today."
