Man Accused of Assaulting Infant
Police arrested a man from Lackawanna County Saturday and accused him of assaulting an infant.

John Catania, 23, of Lake Ariel is charged with simple assault and endangering the welfare of children.

According to state police, the incident ocurred in April while Catania was caring for the baby boy at his home in Jefferson Township. Troopers said the boy suffered a broken arm and Catania took him to Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.

State police said Catania told doctors the child was on the verge of falling out of bed and he caught him by the arm. Doctors indicated that the injury could not have happened the way Catania said. Troopers said doctors also found marks on the boy's face and buttocks.

Catania was arraigned Saturday and taken to Lackawanna County jail.
