It's that time of year when people start thinking about Halloween costumes. With the tough economy this may be the time to get creative to save cash.

Costume shops can be like a visual feast for the eyes; so much to see, so many costumes to ponder.

Customers like Luke Ameigh and Kiel Pollock are already scoping out costumes at Taney's in Scranton to get some ideas for their Halloween get up.

"We look for something crazy, something funny," Ameigh said.

Both seniors at Lackawanna Trail High School are thinking about going as the Spice Girls or singer Miley Cyrus.

"You got to bring the right charm out, the humor. The ladies like that," Pollock said.

What's been the most requested costume? Last year it was President Obama. This year try Farrah Fawcett and King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

"The reason I think so is because most of the time in this industry when a celebrity like that passes away a lot of people want to be them for Halloween," said Jim O'Hora of Taney's Costume Shop.

While people are still struggling in today's economy, there are still plenty of ways that you can come up with some cool costumes without spending a lot of cash.

Try making something with items you might have around the house, like old cardboard boxes. You could be larger than life as a Nintendo Wii remote or the old school classic controller.

Electronics not your thing? How about only spending a few dollars and going with the zombie look like Courtney Tibbetts tried.

"I was surprised how quickly it was done. It didn't take any time at all. He used just a couple different kinds of make-up," Tibbetts said.

"Zombies are the least expensive way to go for Halloween. All you need is a few dollars of make-up and some old torn up clothes and you got a great costume," O'Hora explained. "You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a good time."

That's what Halloween is all about, no matter what you spend.
