The big race in Lackawanna County is also a judicial one.

Two candidates are vying for one open seat on the bench. Both work together in the Lackawanna district attorney's office.

The word out across Lackawanna County is that turnout has been light, as it often is in off-year elections.

Republican Frank Castellano cast his ballot Tuesday morning at the First United Methodist Church in Moscow. He and his opponent work in the Lackawanna County district attorney's office and both took a negative tone in their ads near the end.

Democrat Margie Bisignani Moyle voted at her polling place along Green Ridge Street in Scranton.

Despite some negative ads near the end, she and Castellano said it's been a good, positive race and both said it has been impacted by the scandal just to the south in Luzerne County, making voters more interested than usual in a judicial race.

"I think it affects what people are looking at and what's really important to people. As I've been going around campaigning, what they want to know is are you going to be an honest judge," Castellano said.

"Those are such legitimate concerns and the voters really are tuned in. They really tried to educate themselves about what was going on in the races. I was glad the voters were paying attention," said Margie Bisignani Moyle.

The two candidates for judge are vying for a new position on the bench in Lackawanna County. The number of judges is being increased to nine.

Both Castellano and Bisignani Moyle said they have learned a lot through campaigning. Tonight they'll learn who won.
