A community in Lackawanna County found a special way to honor two young people who passed away within days of each other in 2007.
The sign that welcomes people to the Hilltop Haven section of Peckville is dedicated to the memories of Sergeant Jan Argonish and Danielle Faramelli.
Argonish was killed while serving in Afghanistan late in August of 2007.
Faramelli died in a crash in Jessup a week later.
The sergeant's parents were there for the sign dedication.
Nancy Argonish the pain caused by Jan's loss will never go away, but things like this help her remember how her son wanted to keep his country safe.
"I'm sad that my son had to lose his life but ever so proud that he was willing to go," said Nancy Argonish.
The sergeant's father feels the same way; sorry his son is gone, and honored his neighbors care so much.
"The hurt is never going to go away. It's always going to be there, but it makes it easier when you do things like this in their honor," said Michael Argonish.
The sign dedication isn't the only honor received this week. A mural, beneath the Casey Highway in Jessup was dedicated on Friday.
Sergeant Argonish was 26 years old when he was killed in Afghanistan. Danielle Faramelli was just 25.
Her mother said the support from people in Peckville is a big help "Knowing that they loved our kids so much and we know that because of the type of neighborhood it was. People cared about each other," said Debi Faramelli.
And they cared enough to give.
The memorial was paid for by donations, and volunteers helped put it all together. The people in Peckville said it's helped bring their neighborhood together.
One of the organizers said just about everyone in that part of town gave something, their time, their money and their hearts.
