Game one of the World Series kicked off in New York Wednesday night with a win for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Here in our area, fans of both the Yankees and the Phillies were out doing their best to show their team pride.
At Good Fellas sports bar in Scranton, it was a sea of blue and red. Game one of the World Series was on the television but it seemed the real battle was the fan wars with a showdown between those rooting for the Yankees and those cheering for the Phillies.
"The Phillies play for heart; they don't play for money," said on Philly fan.
"You got to root for a team that cares about the team. They'll get knocked for spending a lot of money but you actually spend the money you make on the product you put on the field," said Mike Williams of Scranton.
As the Phillies entered the fifth inning with a 1-0 lead, Yankee fans remained optimistic.
"They are losing right now but I know we're coming back, in 6th, 7th inning; that's when we'll take over," said D. Walker of Scranton.
But Phillies fans said they're taking the series for a second year in a row.
"It's the second year, this is awesome! So we're probably going to run around and go crazy if they win," said Emily Hahn of Scranton.
"It ain't nothing; they won last year," said James Phillips of Philadelphia. "Philly's just gonna do what they do and they're gonna win."
'Not so fast' said Yankee fans. After years of not claiming the championship, they said this series is theirs.
"That's dynasty. It's been so long since we got that, we're not going to give it up now," added Walker.
The Phils are hoping to repeat last year's fall classic win.
Philly hurler Cliff Lee dominated the Yanks Wednesday night. He had 10 strike outs and gave up only six hits to outduel C.C. Sabathia. Chase Utley had two homers off the Bronx Bombers starter. The Phillies won game one of the series 6 to 1.
Game two is set for Thursday night in New York.
