A former soccer coach is behind bars, accused of having sex with one of his players in Susquehanna County.
Gerald Koch is the former Blue Ridge High School girls soccer coach. Friday he was in court.
"I think it's ridiculous. I think they need to be more cautious of who they hire anymore," said Darlene Robbs of Koch's actions.
Koch was denied bail during a hearing in federal court in Binghamton. He is accused of having sex with a sixteen-year-old Blue Ridge High School student in Susquehanna County several times between last September and this June.
At the time, Koch was the girls' soccer coach at Blue Ridge High School near New Milford. Authorities claim the two had sex in Koch's car and at his home in Brackney. According to court documents, in addition to telephone calls between the two, there were also explicit text messages sent between the victim and Koch while she attended school at Blue Ridge.
Eddy Arnold is disturbed by Koch's alleged actions. "I mean this is a Norman Rockwell type of area and I think it's disastrous. This is something that happens in the big city, not something that happens here." Arnold said.
"It's really unbelievable for such a small community with stuff like this happening. I'm just shocked," Robbs added.
Koch is no longer an employee of the district, according to Blue Ridge. If found guilty he could face ten years to life in prison.
