Film crews and movie stars are at work on a movie called "Unstoppable." The crew is staying in downtown Lock Haven for the next few weeks.
"Unstoppable" stars Denzel Washington and is about a runaway train filled with dangerous chemicals. The major motion picture is slated to be released sometime next year but for the next several weeks the moviemakers are expected to pump some money into the Lock Haven area economy.
The Fairfield Inn and Suites in Lock Haven is booked solid for the rest of October. Hotel general manager Rachel Young said her guests are not just anyone.
"They leave very early. They are out of here by 6 a.m." said Young. "They get back between 5 p.m. and midnight."
The new hotel opened early for all 65 crewmembers.
"Unstoppable" is about a runaway freight train carrying dangerous chemicals on a collision course with a town, according to the Internet Movie Database. Actors Denzel Washington and Rosario Dawson are starring but not staying at the hotel.
"We have regular Joes here. They're a bunch of great guys, very down to earth. Not high maintenance at all," added Young.
"Unstoppable" is being filmed on the Nittany and Bald Eagle Railroad near State College. Even though it is not being shot in the Lock Haven area, local business owners said it is benefiting them regardless.
"It's been nice. They've brought a lot of business to the place. They're a great bunch of guys," said Steve Gundy of the Hangar "9" Restaurant and Lounge. In the two or three days since the crew has been in town, Gundy has seen a real boost in business. "To add some extra people and have hotel nearby. It helps the local economy."
The film crew is expected to be in town until early November.
