If you want to go all out to deck the halls this holiday season, but you didn't want to take out a second mortgage to pay the electric bill. LED lights might just be the answer.
Switching can save you both power and money! It's that time of year again to get the ladder out, string the lights and turn the switch for the holiday season.
A company called "Christmas Decor" started decorating one business in downtown Stroudsburg, Monroe County and this Christmas you can get the colorful lights without the hefty electricity bill.
LED bulbs have flat tips, but from a distance the bulbs look just like traditional incandescent bulbs. The LEDs even come in multi-color strands.
The difference is simple. For one thing, the new LED bulbs are extremely sturdy because the bulbs aren't made with a filament. Zechari Strauser says that with the smaller amount of electricity the bulbs use, you can string multiple strands together.
"Saving power, I think, is one of the biggest things. Obviously, saving the initial monthly bills for electricity that's definitely a benefit, but overall I just think it's the movement of LED," Strasuer explains.
"This year when we went 100% LED, everyone is just going forward with it and very responsive."
This is the third year Sarah Street Grill on Main Street in Stroudsburg has used "Christmas Decor" and by next Christmas the entire building will be covered with LED lights.
"I would recommend it being that you're getting a longer bulb life by double and triple the time. The initial investment is a little more but overall you'll see the savings," Strauser said.
Your house could light up for less. Whether it be plain white trees or flashing reds and greens, it's all part of the holiday spirit.
