It was cleanup day at a school in Wyoming County after the place was hit by a destructive storm.

People living and working at Saint Michael's School for Children in Wyoming County said Friday they still can't believe all the damage after a storm tore through the area near Falls Thursday night.

They said it only took a few minutes for the storm to rip through, causing all the damage.

"You couldn't even see like a foot in front of you. It was just like a wall of water and it went by quickly and then it was okay. It was like the calm after the storm and then they looked out and they saw all this stuff down and they couldn't imagine it," said school director Andrew Varzaly.

What is amazing to the staff at St. Michael's staff was the storm seemed to hit just there. There's no damage anywhere nearby.

On School grounds, tree after tree is toppled over, some are completely uprooted and power and phone lines have been pulled down.

"A lot of work, a lot of trees down. I called the entire crew in. They responded quickly. For the most part we're running on generators, which is, you know, they're working well right now, but I'd like to get us back on normal power as soon as possible," said Shaun Fortney of St. Michael's

The people at St. Michael's said this July 4th weekend the most interesting part about the storm is their flag poles. Of three that stand outside the school only one in the middle still stands.

The clean-up here is expected to take some time but the most important things were protected from the wind and rain.

"So things are cool. The staff did a great job last night," Varzaly added.

The maintenance crew at St. Michael's said they're hoping to contract some of the work out so they can get back to normal as soon as possible.
