Police Search for Gunman in Deadly Shooting
Police continue to search for a suspect after a shooting Saturday night in Wyoming County turned deadly.

Jerry Prawdzik, 29, died Sunday morning.

Holiday weekends are always busy at Lake Carey, near Tunkhannock, but nothing like the scene early Sunday morning after a shooting outside the Lake Carey Inn just before 11 p.m. Saturday packed the lakeshore with police.

Officers had guns drawn. Police called for dive teams to hit the water, searching for the shooter. Investigators feared he swam or ran off.

While police looked for the gunman, investigators said victim Jerry Prawdzik was taken to a hospital then flown to another one, before he passed away.

People spending the weekend near the lake were on edge.

"They came in and told us to lock all the doors because this guy got shot," said Josh Brown of Lake Ariel. He added some people he was staying with heard the gunshot. They all knew the shooter was loose. "Kind of nervous. They said he ran off, but we were all so nervous. We stayed up until like 3 a.m."

Sunday morning, news spread that 29-year-old Jerry Prawdzik had passed away. Flowers were placed outside the inn. A sign on the door said the place was closed because of Prawdzik's death.

Prawdzik was from Pittston, but neighbors said his family has a home on the lake.

"I knew the kid. He used to come over here quite often. Young fella," said Frank Biondollo.

Frank Biondollo has run Frank's Marina near the Lake Carey Inn for decades. He said Prawdzik was always a nice guy. "It's the first time it's happened in all the time I've been here. You hear of fights going on over there but no killing," added Biondollo.

It made for a holiday weekend few in the area will forget.

"It's pretty wild how it happened so close to home. You don't expect something like this right where everyone lives and comes to enjoy themselves. It's pretty sad," said Dustin Ryman of Montrose.

Investigators said Prawdzik was shot in the abdomen after some kind of argument. Police are still searching for the suspect, who they said is a man in his twenties.
