A signature summer event which honors a baseball legend is now underway in Wyoming County.

A quaint community's big celebration, Christy Mathewson Days is now underway at Keystone College in the Factoryville area.

The community still honors one of its own who just happened to be among the first five players in the world to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

There is an entire summer celebration dedicated baseball hero Christy Mathewson, who played in the early 1900s.

"We come together to honor this man every year. It's the spin off of his character, family, concern for all," said Keystone College President Ned Boehm.

In addition to all of the favorites of Christy Mathewson Days, like the annual Saturday parade, there's plenty new this year to celebrate the 14th year of the event, like tree climbing for kids.

"We do it for free. It's just a good time, trying to introduce the kids to arbor culture," said John Brown of Brown Hill Tree Company.

Also new this year is a battle of the bands.

"You're going to hear awesome music, see lots of energy lot of energy. It'll just be a fun place to be," said Justin Shaw.

Something else that's unique at the event is all of the Christy Mathewson memorabilia that you can see up close and personal. This year they actually took it all out of the glass casings so you can get a closer look.

"Especially for the younger generation who don't know who Christy Mathewson was. This is a great thing to be able to educate people," said Ed Nowakowski of Christy Mathewson Days.

Christy Mathewson Days runs through Saturday night in the Factoryville area.
