It is called the largest Christmas tree and holiday wreath auction in the country and it is going on in Union County.

You have to move fast in order to get what you want at the Buffalo Valley Produce Auction near Mifflinburg.

"I think that the prices are high we wait until they get up here and maybe the prices will go down a little later but we'll be here all day," said Maryland buyer Don Gifford.

Thousands upon thousands of wholesale holiday items are on sale for the first day of the auction. Everything from wreaths, garland, holly and several other holiday decorations are on sale. Some items sold there are local, others from areas across the east coast.

Bill Borowsky drove about three-and-a-half hours to buy products for his garden center in New Jersey.

"The prices are a lot cheaper. I use the middle man out where I'm from and I'm getting a substantial savings," said Borowsky.

Folks said this is the largest auction of its kind. About 600 buyers and sellers showed up for the annual event.

"It's a central location that in between big cities a lot of people can get her and buy every variety size and every type they need all right here," said Ben Courtney, Buffalo Valley Produce auctioneer.

Organizers said some of the hottest selling items are wreaths, especially the ones that are decorated.

Some don't come to shop or sell, just to look

"Just to get different ideas and to look at what's all available," said Chritien Slear of Northumberland Borough.

Some also came out Monday to preview the nearly 45,000 trees displayed. The trees head to the auction block Tuesday.
