Rhonda Fisher is putting up flyers advertising her free Thanksgiving dinner. She relies on donations to cook the special meal for hundreds but this year, she said, two of her major supporters have pulled out, cutting her budget in half.
"This community has come to depend on us and I don't want to let them down," Fisher said.
Martha Zimmerman os one of those people. She said she's all alone and depends on the holiday meal.
"They are wonderful and you can't complain about them because they are really outstanding," Zimmerman said.
The dinner is held every year on Thanksgiving Day at the Special Occasions Hall in Sunbury.
Fisher said she needs 30 turkeys, 30 hams and all the trimmings. In addition she needs eating utensils and paper plates for about 500 people.
Last year Fisher said she prepared about 500 dinners and this year she expects more people because of the economy.
"The economy the way it is, it's rough for everybody but I think if we just open up our hearts reach in our pockets our Thanksgiving and lives will be enriched for helping others that are less fortunate," added Fisher.
This will be the tenth year Fisher has cooked up meals for those in needo on Thanksgiving. Now she hopes people in the community will help her in this time of need.
