A toddler was taken to the hospital after police said he was run over by a float.
It happened in the 100 block of North Market Street in Selinsgrove during the annual Selinsgrove Halloween parade. A 20-month-old boy fell off a trailer that was a part of float and was run over by one of the wheels.
WKOK radio reporter Ali Stevens was there. "Everyone was in a panic mode. I think they were really scared to see ambulances flying in a parade like that. You don't expect that. It was scary," Stevens recounted.
Drew Kelly of WQKX radio was at the parade just a few feet from where it happened.
"You certainly know its possible but you just never think of the worst and unfortunately this sounds like last night was the worst where somebody got hurt," Kelly added.
Police said the boy and his mother were riding on the float on North Market Street when he fell.
The boy was taken to Geisinger Medical Center.
Christopher Kenawell was the coordinator of the event. He said there were about 50 floats and 800 people in the parade.
In the eight years he has run the event nothing like this has ever happened.
"I think you are always going to have people who are going to want to bring their children and put them on floats and most of the time they are safe. This was a very unfortunate incident," Kenawell said.
Police are investigating and are not releasing the boy's name.
There is no official word on his condition but parade organizers said they believe he wasn't seriously hurt.
