In Snyder County some are celebrating Veterans Day early.

The group is called the Snyder County Council of Republican Women and Monday they packed supplies. Those supplies will all be sent to veterans and soliders at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C.

"And there is puzzle books and candy is going also so we think it's a nice gesture for them. We hope it brings them some comfort," said Teresa Berger of the Council of Republican Women.

Things such as deodorant, magazines, clothing, candy along with other items will go to veterans and those in the military at the hospital.

The council organized the project. The goal is to show support for those who serve our county in honor of Veterans Day.

"People here in Snyder County are thinking of them, appreciate them, for all they are doing for us," Berger added.

"I saw pajama pants socks t-shirts, all the things that make us feel good and special. And they are special and we appreciate the guys a lot," said Stacey Zerbe of the council.

All of the items collected were donated by people in the community. Boxes were set up in local businesses throughout Snyder County and organizers said the response was overwhelming.

"This is a time of year where there are so many people are asking for support and yes, we were very pleased with what came in," Zerbe said.

This was the first year the group did this project. They said the response was very good. They plan on doing other projects like this in future.
