It was an interesting weekend in Middleburg where a 1,300 pound bull ran loose for hours right through neighborhoods.
The bull's escape and its capture was the talk of the town Monday.
"It came through the yard this way and ended up in the neighbor's yard. Then it came across Center Street into our front yard," said one Middleburg resident.
Those living right in town couldn't believe what they were seeing.
"We saw the people hurrying with flashlights and car lights shining in this direction. We thought it was a bear in town. Then as it came out into the street lights my son said, 'Oh, it's a bull!'" said a neighbor.
The bull was in a trailer, heading home from a livestock auction on Main Street when it broke free and bolted into the neighborhoods where it roamed around for hours.
"It was huge. It was very large. From what I could see it didn't look like it had horns," said one onlooker.
She said the big bull did a good job at avoiding capture.
"It was very dark so I'm sure it was very hard to keep track of in the dark so it looked like a dark colored bull, maybe black," said another onlooker.
"Not everyday you see one in town," said Richard Ulmer. He owns an elk farm and got a call in the middle of the night from 911 dispatchers. "I thought one of my elk bulls got out. Just waking up from a dead sleep, you get a call like that and think one of your bulls is out, you're awake in a hurry."
But Ulmer was called to a farm on the edge of town where townsfolk chased the bull and the big guy found some females, settling down enough for Ulmer to tranquilize him, ending the rare run of the bull in Middleburg.
