In the race for mayor of Scranton, it appears as though incumbent Chris Doherty is assured of a third term. On Tuesday, Doherty defeated challenger Gary Dibileo in the Democratic primary. He also waged a write-in campaign on the Republican side. Bob Bolus was the only Republican candidate on the ballot. Write-in votes were counted Friday, and Doherty told Newswatch 16 that he defeated Bolus by about 400 votes.
In Wyoming County, the official count shows that District Attorney George Skumanick has a 29 vote lead over Republican challenger Deborah Albert-Heise. Albert-Heise says she has not yet decided whether to ask for a recount. Jeff Mitchell ran unopposed on the Democratic ticket. He'll face the Republican winner in November.
