The city of Scranton is getting ready for a holiday tradition.

With fallen leaves still littering lawns everywhere it's tough think that the holidays are about to happen. Thanksgiving is this month but it's already Christmas time in Nay Aug Park in Scranton.

Consider the workers Santa's little helpers who are preparing for the Electric City's annual holiday light show.

"We started right at the end of September," said Mark Dougher, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department in Scranton.

That work meant unloading lots of lights; four tractor-trailers worth. With 250 displays, each with an average of 500 to 1,000 lights, even the guys admit there's been a few broken bulbs.

"That's just the nature of the beast. We have to take them out of trailers, put them in trailers, carry them all over the park. That's what happens," said Mike Mueller of the parks department.

"Every day. We come down here. These guys are working, putting them up. I thought it was too early but I guess it isn't," said Albert Breymeier of Roaring Brook Township.

He and his wife, Dolores, and their fluffy, four-legged friends stroll the Scranton park daily. They too can't believe the holidays are here again but Dolores loves it. "I'm just a Christmas nut. Half of our basement is Christmas decorations," Dolores Breymeier said.

It's not just Nay Aug Park that's getting into the holiday spirit but by next week crews plan to hang giant Christmas poinsettias throughout the downtown.

The holiday light show in Nay Aug Park starts the day after Thanksgiving at 5 p.m. and runs through early January in Scranton.
