A building hit by fire in downtown Scranton will soon be home to more than 100 people.

A $10 million transformation project at 317 Linden is breathing new life into downtown Scranton.

In June Newswatch 16 checked out the pre-manufactured apartments being linked like Legos. Eventually 119 people will call the place home.

"An awful lot has been done. We've been delayed because of the summer without a summer and we were able to make up some time in the last few weeks. So we've gone from the stage of early construction that you saw in June to completing our first phase which is 16 apartments. Totally finished, ready for occupancy as of November 2," explained project manager Jack Reilly.

Nearly every unit has four bathrooms and four bedrooms and a shared living room and kitchen area.

The goal is a community living facility that brings housing, a gym, laundry room and activities center, all under one roof.

The owner said the bedrooms go for $750 a piece and that includes all of your utilities. As of now there are still plenty of apartments available.

Normandy Holdings is the local company behind the multi-million dollar project. The group overcame plenty of obstacles during the work on the place that was last an industrial laundry facility.

The biggest challenge was bouncing back from a fire that was accidentally started during construction in January, 2008.

"It was nice to see the building change from that to this. It was an eye- sore then and look at it now," said construction worker Nick D'Ambra.

"From what Ii can see the progress that was on this building from a year ago, it's just a transformation of the wonderful things that are taking place in downtown Scranton," said John Bochak.
