An old business which is booming in Schuylkill County.

The smell of pumpkin fills the air at the New York Bakery in Frackville. The demand for pumpkin favorites spikes during this time of the year.

Workers were making things like pumpkin pies and other goodies Thursday.

"You just roll it while it's warm and then when it cools off you fill it and then you have your pumpkin roll," said Barbara Shapalski of New York Bakery.

The folks at the New York Bakery are known for their bread but they've now expanded into comfort food.

"I think thats important. We're very cautious with our pricing. We're not gouging the customer because everyone needs treats and we have a good product," said Mildred Kennedy of the New York Bakery.

There's rarely a lack of customers. People go there because of the good food and memories.

"My father used to work for this bakery, many, many years ago," said Theresa Laurusezage of Ringtown. "See we didn't have babysitters in those days so for the summer months when I was out of school I came to the bakery with my father."

"I remember coming up here on a Wednesday night for a home football game and getting fresh baked bread for a quarter a loaf and walking up and sharing it with my friends and eat it at the football game," recalled Ed Probition of Frackville.

Workers at the bakery expect to sell a thousand pumpkin pies before Thanksgiving and even more for Christmas.
