Mount Carmel Area students are packing boxes filled donated items for those who serve overseas.
"They are helping us out so it would be kind of nice to help them out for a change," said student Chelsea Matos.
The high school students are giving back with a collection of donated items. Each box will be packed with everything from snacks to books to deodorant. Some items tailored just for men and some for women. All will be mailed to troops overseas.
"If they are not over there doing their job we don't get our freedoms and stuff so its nice to help them out and show them our appreciation for them," said student Michael Purcell.
"Seeing the enjoyment they get and the lesson they learn that you can't learn in a classroom, from helping and serving," said teacher Diane Rumbel of the project.
The students set up collection sites in the Mount Carmel Area. They said they received enough donations to fill the boxes and enough money for postage. Students hope to send at least 20 of the care packages overseas.
"I hope they'll feel happy that we are helping them out and give them give them a boost to fight for us," said student Brianna Lutz.
Students said the goal is to honor those in the military for Veterans Day. The boxes will be mailed to troops soon and arrive in time for Thanksgiving.
