Soon all construction at Integrity Systems, a modular home company in Milton, could be powered by the sun.
"For our production facility it will be 100 percent, will be solar power so from that stand point it something we'll be proud of," said Glenn Salsman.
They hope to receive their power from a solar farm in Milton. The Borough Council's Planning Commission has approved a $32 million plan to build the farm. Twenty-six thousand solar panels would be set up in Milton's Industrial Park.
Right now the land is being leased for farming but developers said within a year they want to turn it into a 22 acre solar farm. Two developers will own the solar farm. The electricity generated will be sold to PPL and to two nearby businesses,
"We are probably going to save approximately $1,000 a month. It's pretty significant. It's a win win. The environment wins and we as a company win," added Salsman
Organizers said the farm would be the largest solar farm east of the Mississippi River.
"I think what it represents is rural Pennsylvanians taking care of rural Pennsylvanians in a creative and innovative way. We are taking steps today to secure energy sources locally," said Maria Culp.
The plan still needs okays from the Milton's Borough Council, Northumberland County and the state DEP. If the solar farm is approved, construction could begin this year.
