One spot that is always busy when the weather gets nice is Knoebels Amusement Resort near Elysburg in Northumberland County.

Knoebels officially opens for the season Saturday

The weather is right and the staff is ready.

Shirley Payeskie knows exactly what to do. She's worked at the amusement park for 25 years. "We've just been scrubbing and cleaning. And you know the general things we have to do because these are all food stands and we disinfect them," said Payeskie.

Staff members said they expect record numbers for opening weekend.

The weather is expected to be sunny, in the 80s.

"We're excited to see what the turnout is going to be," said Joe Muscato, Knoebels' Spokesman. "This is exceptional weather for opening day. We've had good days before. I don't think we've had as many people taking about this as far as this time, or had as much junky weather leading up to it with the cabin fever."

Two new children's rides were added to the amusement park this year, Goin' Buggy and Kiddie Himalaya which can hold up to 32 children.

Another ride that has been under construction for a few years is the flying turns roller coaster. The ride's builders said some more work needs to be done before the coaster can open.

"Now we are at a point where we're doing a redesign on the train which is almost completed. Over the winter we have reprofiled a couple of sections of the trough. We felt we needed to do that. We're making excellent progress and we do have high hopes to open it later in the season," said Muscato.

The amusement park will be open only on weekends until Memorial Day when it opens up daily.

Something that won't be changing are the prices. The cost to ride all day will remain the same price as last year.
