"There are so many students on buses and the germs are kind of in a contained area. A lot of times the doors are closed and the windows are closed and the coughing and sneezing. So we pretty much wanted to take the same precautions on the buses as in the schools," said transportation supervisor Kay Porchet.
All school buses and vans are equipped with disinfectant to control the spread of H1N1. School officials said attendance has down lately because of illness raising concerns over the swine flu so it is now mandatory for all bus drivers to use the disinfectant.
"Just being proactive in general. I think it has helped a lot in attendance because our numbers have pretty much come back up to being normal," added Porchet.
Eighteen buses and 12 vans pick up and drop off 2,000 Milton Area School students. Tiffany Hauck drives one of those buses. "Everyday when we are done with our morning run when I get home I wipe everything down and after I get home in the afternoon I do the same thing," said Hauck.
Hauck added she doesn't mind taking the extra precaution. "It keeps me healthy, it keeps the other kids healthy. I think it's a good idea," Hauck said.
