The nine-year-old girl attacked by a dog in Northumberland County last week is home from the hospital and shared the story of her ordeal.

A big welcome sign hangs outside of Amanda Smith's house in Kulpmont.

The nine year old recently returned home after spending nine days in the hospital recovering from an attack by a bull Mastiff.

"I was thinking am I going to die or something?" Smith said Wednesday.

She and the niece of the dog's owner were walking the bull Mastiff when they encountered another dog. The mastiff then became aggressive and turned on the girls.

Amanda's mother, Jennifer Smith said she had no idea the girls were walking the dog that day.

"Why would anybody in their right mind let two little girls walk a dog that big?" Jennifer Smith wondered. She said Amanda suffered extensive injuries. Her nose and jaw were broken, sinuses damaged and her skull was fractured. The other girl had less serious injuries.

The owner of the dog was cited by police but Smith wants more. "I'm glad the dog is going to be euthanized and I do want charges against them and we are going to sue them for her pain and suffering," Jennifer Smith explained.

While in the hospital Amanda received more than 100 get well cards and donations for her recovery.

Amanda said she is thankful for the support. It's what's helping her move on. "I'm really happy because I get to spend time with my family and not being in surgeries at all. And now we get to be together, one big happy family," said Amanda.

The road to recovery is not over. Amanda may still need a few more surgeries and it could take her months to heal from the dog attack.
