A buggy and pick-up truck collided Thursday morning in Montour County, killing the horse that was pulling the buggy.
It happened about 9 a.m. on Route 54 near Turbotville.
The lone person in the buggy was not seriously hurt but the horse was killed in the crash.
According to troopers, the woman riding the horse and buggy had just gone over a hill, headed east on Route 54 when the pick-up slammed into the back of them.
The horse died from its injuries. It was covered with a white sheet.
Investigators said there was one woman in the buggy. She refused treatment for her injuries, but was driven to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
State police said the horse was tired and slowed down a bit once it crested the hill. That's when the truck came upon the buggy.
With two vehicles in the oncoming lanes, troopers said, there was no where for the truck to go.
The impact crumpled the buggy.
State police said the 17-year-old driver of the truck was going about 55 miles per hour and will be charged with driving at an unsafe speed.
