Phillies or Yankees. No matter who wins the World Series this year it is a home run for sporting good stores in the Poconos with lots of fans from both Philadelphia and New York living in Monroe County.
Phillies hats, Yankees shirts, the World Series gear is out at Schuylkill Valley Sports in the Stroud Mall.
"I was born and raised in the Bronx and my wife was born and raised in Stroudsburg so she is a Philly fan and I am a Yankee fan," said John Schwartz of Snydersville. He picking up gear for both teams and said come World Series time it might get tense at home. "I might have to sleep on the couch if the Yankees win!"
What could be a strike for some fans is a double-header for Poconos sporting goods stores.
From the Yankees to the Phillies, Schuylkill Valley Sports said the line up at the World Series is a double play for sales.
"It's great! Whenever there is a major championship and you get a local team it's good for business and we've got both local teams and they are very passionate fans group so it is good for business," said Tink Lim, manager at Schuylkill Valley Sports.
Passionate indeed.
Greg Williams and Erik Lovgren were shopping for sports shirts. Both are East Stroudsburg University students. Both are from New Hersey and both are rooting for different teams.
"I don't think I can talk to him starting tomorrow until after the Phillies win. We can rebound afterward," Williams said.
"The Yankees are going to do it. They are the better team. They are the better team," Lovgren said.
One thing both the Philly fans and Yankees fan have in common is a need to buy team stuff.
"It's nice to have something to remember the World Series by just for the fun of it," added Schwartz.
