Investigators said Ginger Thompson of Stroudsburg bought everything from jewelry, furniture and two pick-up trucks for a friend.
Investigators said the 60-year-old woman stole nearly $110,000 from her 82-year-old boyfriend, forging checks with his signature even after the man died in February.
Thompson is on trial for theft and forgery charges. Police said she stole the money from Sam Tambasco of Effort. The money that was supposed to go to Sammy Tambasco, the victim's 18-year-old grandson who had been living with his grandfather since he was two years old.
According to prosecutors, Thompson met the victim a few years ago and they become romantically involved and she soon moved in with him.
The younger Tambasco told jurors he and his grandfather trusted Thompson enough to let her handle the victim's finances.
On February 4 of this year, prosecutors said Tambasco passed away and then came a shocking discovery.
Investigators said $110,000 was gone from the Tambasco's bank account, including forged checks and debit card charges for diamond jewelry, furniture and two pick-up trucks for a family friend, all purchased by Thompson, according to police.
Witnesses testified some of the purchases were made after the victim died.
Thompson's attorney told jurors it's all a misunderstanding and that some of the money was to go to Sammy.
It was all part of a plan she and Tambasco had created to take care of his grandson.
Thompson's attorney said his client has no comment at this time about the trial or the charges.
The courthouse is closed Wednesday for Veterans Day. The trail will resume later this week.
