It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Monroe County.
A few sprinkles didn't stop workers in Stroudsburg from decking out downtown. Crews spent most of the day putting up wreathes and red bows on courthouse square and on Main Street, a sure sign the holiday season has hit the Poconos, which means holiday shopping.
"We keep on buying and getting ready for the holidays; we are decorating the store," said Martha Loomis, owner of Josephine's.
From locally-made snowflake ornaments to designer gifts, Josephine's store shelves are packed and ready for holiday shoppers and Loomis said the holiday shopping season is shaping up to be much better than last year.
"I think it is a more hopeful Christmas season. I think people are still cautious and I think that makes sense. People are still looking for a wide variety of prices and we have that here," said Loomis.
"I have everything in that I need for Christmas, so I am ready to go right now. I just have to wait for the customers now," said Paula Fitzpatrick, owner of Fitzpatrick's down the street.
According to Fitzpatrick, the holiday shopping traffic in her store usually picks up after the Thanksgiving holidays.
"People are coming in and browsing. They are browsing but they are getting ready to buy for Christmas," said Fitzpatrick.
Loomis said she hopes a decked out Main Street will bring in more shoppers.
"The wreathes are beautiful. The lights are now on the trees and it is becoming very festive," said Loomis.
Workers said they put up 88 holiday wreathes in downtown Stroudsburg.
