A fundraiser is underway Monday in the Poconos for the family of a fallen state trooper.
Five Guys Burgers and Fries in the Stroudsburg area opened about 11 a.m. The restaurant plans to take all of the money it makes Monday and give it to the family of fallen state trooper Joshua Miller.
The 34 year old was killed in the line of duty earlier this month in the Poconos while trying to save a kidnapped child.
"He had three kids, three daughters and, of course, a wife. I have two kids and I can't imagine what they're going through at this time. You have to feel for them," said Joe Rantuccio, owner of the Stroudsburg Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
To help out the Miller family Five Guys at the Shoppes at Stroud along Route 611 will give all of Monday's profits to the Joshua Miller Memorial Fund.
"I heard this on TV. I like Five Guys and I heard about this so I wanted to come down to help out," said Stephen Foster of Swiftwater.
"I work in the area and I think it's very unfortunate that this man has lost his life in the line of him doing his job and people should come out and support him, his family, the people he left behind," said Priscilla Roth of Kunkletown.
Despite tough economic times, managers remain hopeful that a lot people will come out to support this cause and like so many other businesses that could use the cash this time of year, for Five Guys, it's more important to give back.
"It's not about money all of the time. It's about having a heart and giving back to the community. If it wasn't for the community we wouldn't make it at all," said Five Guys General Manager Todd Foy.
"I think it really shows that people around here really do care about other people," Roth added.
The fundraiser for Trooper Miller, which was also organized by Monroe County employees and sheriffs office, continues until 10 p.m. in the Stroudsburg area.
There was also a fundraiser last Friday at the Monroe County courthouse. Employees there raised almost $3,000 during a bake sell.
