PUC Judge Recommends Power Line Approval
A Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission recommends approving a proposed power transmission line through a part of northeastern and central Pennsylvania.

The proposed line would run from Berwick, through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and into New Jersey. PPL has hosted nearly two dozen public hearings regarding the new line to discuss everything from the route of the line to the design. Many of those opposed to the power line voiced their opinions at the public hearings.

"Today's recommendation is another important step in the PUC review process for a new transmission line that will improve the reliability of electric service for millions of people in Pennsylvania and throughout the region," said David Schleicher of PPL.

The proposed line still has to be reviewed by the National Park Service because of the proposed route through the Delaware Water Gap area and because it crosses the Appalachian National Scenic Trail in New Jersey.

The PUC is expected to have a decision on the proposed transmission line in January.
