It was at the end of October last year when a freak snow storm dumped more than a foot of snow on parts of Monroe County.

With snow in Thursday's forecast residents aren't taking any chances.

"I am just trying to be prepared now. It's better to be prepared than sorry," said Victor Iglesias of Tobyhanna. "We just got the forecast. We heard that the snow is coming and we want to be prepared so I am actually out looking for a snow blower."

Workers at Ace Hardware in Mount Pocono said they are well stocked for the winter season. They have snow shovels and ice melt because, they said, they remember what happened last year.

In total the early snow storm dumped more than 17 inches in some areas near Mount Pocono.

The storm caught many off guard.

Ace Hardware manager Dick Kilmer remembers it well. "We were very busy. We went from 10 a.m. til, it was after 9 p.m. until we closed the doors," Kilmer recalled.

He said the hardware store is ready in case another early storm hits this area. The more snow, the better the business.

"If it helps pick up business we will definitely take it," Kilmer added. "I will take two feet."

With the early snow of last year stuck in many residents' heads, Albert Blackford from Tobyhanna said he is making sure he has all his snow supplies ready.

"I am getting ice melt, dog food, matches for the fireplace in case it gets bad weather from the storm and we have to light up the fire place, light bulbs in case the bulbs go out," Blackford said.
