Road crews are preparing for the first snow of the season. It was about this time last year a freak snow storm dumped more than a foot in parts of Monroe County. This year the plows are ready.
"With this prediction tomorrow we stepped it up a little bit. We will have most of our trucks ready by tomorrow," said Robert Mudrick, PennDOT's maintenance manager for Monroe County.
With snow expected in the forecast PennDOT's Monroe County fleet of 37 trucks are being fitted with salt spreaders and plows. Twelve thousand tons of road salt is also on hand.
"We will be ready. I remember last year very well," said Mudrick.
On October 28, 2008 piles and piles of snow hit the Poconos. A freak snow storm dumped up to 17 inches of snow in some parts of Monroe County. Coolbaugh Township was one of the hardest hit.
"Last year was pretty brutal," said Coolbaugh Township Business Manager Doug Hein. This year Hein said the township is ready.
"We have our salt shed filled with anti skid and salt. All of our trucks are ready. The plows are painted, prepped," Hein added.
