Police departments in Lycoming County are joining forces.
Mayors in the county signed an agreement Tuesday allowing their police forces to provide mutal aid to each other without being requested.
Most of the departments already help out but now Williamsport has joined the mutual aid agreement, which is expected to help neighboring communities like South Williamsport and Old Lycoming Township, which border Williamsport.
"It directly affects us all the time. Everyone's budgetary constraints are very restrictive these days and crime has no budget. We need the help and they need the help. I'm very positive this is going to work well," said Old Lycoming Township Police Chief Bill Solomon.
The new agreement will give officers approval to help in high-risk situations such as armed robberies, domestic violence incidents and others.
