A family turned a dark day into a hearty meal for others.

One year ago today 20-year-old Sarah Frycklund was killed in a head-on collision. Her family wanted to do some good on a day that means so much to them.

Dan Frycklund tossed pizza dough Thursday at the American Rescue Workers in Williamsport. All the while, his late daughter, Sarah, was on his mind.

Exactly one year ago this day Sarah Frycklund was killed in a crash near Hughesville, leaving her family devastated.

This year, however, the Frycklunds wanted to do something to give back to the community in Sarah's memory.

"I knew I couldn't sit at home, stare at pictures of Sarah and weep for my loss. I don't want to look at it that way," said Dan Frycklund.

So he and his wife, Melissa, and daughter, Alyssa, offered to make 25 pizzas along with salads for the folks at the American Rescue Workers.

"I said can I wash pots. I mentioned I was a chef. The rest is history," Frycklund said.

"(He) said he wanted to be busy and give back on this day. I was humbled he wanted to serve on this day," said Kevin Carroll of American Rescue Workers. He is men's center director and with at least 70 mouths to feed every day, he said the help is very much appreciated.

For the Frycklunds a year without Sarah has been hard but her father feels serving pizza is a fitting tribute, since Sarah used to make pizzas at the local supermarket.

"The joy that's in that kitchen, talking about her in a happy way," added Frycklund.

A cross now sits here along Route 220 near Hughesville where Sarah Frycklund lost her life one year ago. Her parents hope it's a reminder to drivers to slow down and put their seat belts on and that might save a life.
